BAföG + Co.

Studying is almost a full-time job, which usually leaves little time for additional income. The monthly costs for rent, food, mobility, communication, books, scripts, semester fees, leisure time, etc. can quickly add up and it is advisable to think about financing early on.

The Studierendenwerk is happy to help – whether with questions about BAföG or advice on other financial support options.

You can use our BAföG Service Centre to conveniently complete all formalities relating to BAföG online. In addition to BAföG, there are other financial support options that can be considered independently of or in addition to BAföG.

Food + drink

The Studierendenwerk’s award-winning university catering offers healthy, balanced meals at a socially acceptable price, with a focus on freshness and flavour – from the menus in the ‘classic’ canteen, which are mainly made from regional ingredients, to the wide selection of snacks and drinks in our cafeterias.

By the way, you can pay anywhere with your student ID card. It’s best to register for the cashless autoload procedure right away: stw-ma.de/autoload-en

You can find an overview of all open facilities at: stw-ma.de/cafeterias-cafes

Accommodation

The Studierendenwerk’s approximately 3,000 university-related and affordable residences are spread across 15 complexes, each with its own character. The choice is varied and ranges from shared rooms to single-room flats with a kitchenette and bathroom. We recommend that you first apply for one of the rooms in our halls of residence. If we no longer have a room available, we offer a free online private room exchange as an alternative.

International students

In most cases, international students come to a foreign country for the first time, without friends or family. Orientation in a new city and confrontation with new regulations and different attitudes to life is a major challenge for all new students. The coordination centre located in the Mensaria am Schloss building offers international students a low-threshold opportunity to clarify questions and receive support with everyday challenges.
