Questions about moving in with the key box?
We have listed some questions and answers here about the move-in appointments during or outside of the normal operational hours of the Hausbetreuung:
How do I open the box?
In order to open the door to the key box, you will need the access code (the last 7 to 10 digits rental object number).
IMPORTANT: The code must be entered without hyphens and must end with the hash tag key “#”.
- Example (location L7): 810 1234560 #
- Example (all other locations): 810 1234560 #
After you have entered your code, a green light on the keypad should appear and a beep will sound and the door for your keys should open. Take the keys out and close the box.
Where can I find my access code?
You need a code to access the key box. This is your Rental Object ID-Number that can be found on the first page of your rental agreement under §1.1.
What happens if the door does not open?
If a red light appears on the keypad, then you might have entered the wrong number. Please try it again. Please be aware that the last 7 to 10 digits of the Object-ID Number must be entered.
If a red light appears on the keypad, you may have made an appointment for another day and your keys have not yet been placed in the key box yet. Please check the date on the confirmation/move-in protocol again.
If a green light appears but the door does not open, the door might be jammed. Please wait a couple of seconds and enter your code again.
If the door does not open AND you have tried everything as is stated above, there might be a technical issue. Please contact the Hausbetreuung or the housing department on the next available business day.

Do you need assistance outside of our normal hours of operation?
If you are unable to reach our personnel, and cannot stay with family or friends, you can in some cases seek out a hotel at one of the below locations in the city for the evening:

The Studierendenwerk Mannheim can cover the cost of maximum 80 euros for the hotel stay. You will have to pay in advance and will be reimbursed.
You will have to contact the Hausbetreuung immediately on the next workday.
