Legal basis
The Studierendenwerke in Baden-Württemberg are organised in the legal form of an “institution under public law”. Similar to other public-law companies such as savings banks or broadcasting organisations, this legal form offers a sufficient degree of entrepreneurial freedom.

Student Services Act
The legal basis is laid down in the law governing student unions in the state of Baden-Württemberg (Studierendenwerksgesetz – StWG), which also applies to the Studierendenwerk Mannheim.
